Bachelor of Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a medical science field which uses physical agents like exercise, massage and other modalities for providing treatment to those patients whose movement and function are threatened by ageing, injury, disease or environmental factors. Bachelor of Physiotherapy is an Under Graduate Degree which is awarded for a course or program in Physiotherapy. It is also known as BPT which is an abbreviated form of Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree. The duration of BPT is 4½ years including internship of 6 months. Physical Therapy Programs provide core skills like manual therapy, therapeutic exercise and the application of electro physical modalities, to the prospective students.

BPT Eligibility

To get admission into the Bachelor of Physiotherapy, candidates must fulfill the conditions and requirements prescribed by the concerned authorities. Candidates who fail to meet the requirements will not be able to get admission into the institute. It should be noted that the eligibility criteria may be different from institute to institute. Candidates will be required to meet the eligibility criteria specified by the respective institutes.

  • Should have passed 10+2 with a minimum of 50 percent marks from a recognized institute.

  • Should have completed 10+2 having Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as compulsory subjects.

  • Candidates should have passed in English.

  • Candidates should have completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission.

BPT is an undergraduate programme in which students learn to deal with the physical movement of the body aiming to cure disorders of the candidates. BPT Specializations

While pursuing the Bachelor of Physiotherapy, candidates will be required to choose a specialization in which they wish to gain more knowledge. The following are some of the BPT specializations:

Orthopedic Physiotherapy: A knowledge of the anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the skeleton and soft tissues covers orthopedic physiotherapy. Orthopedics are concerned with the management of disorders related to the musculoskeletal system. Some of the common problems that are treated by Orthopedics include back and neck pain, hip fracture, osteoporosis, arthritis, and bursitis.

Neurological Physiotherapy: It is a specialization that is associated with the treatment of people who have problems with movement and other functions due to dysfunctioning within the body’s nervous and neuromuscular systems. Any damage caused to the central nervous system including the brain and spinal cord leads to problems in movement and other body functions. Some of the neurological conditions that require physiotherapy are spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, and problems in balancing.

Pediatrics Physiotherapy: It is a specialization that deals with the development of a baby, particularly in the development of a movement. Paediatricians work towards improving the quality of life of children with neuromuscular disorders such as cerebral palsy and autism. .
